Are Mac Users Paying More For Hotels on Orbitz?

Well this is indeed very interesting, According to a report from the Wall Street Journal Orbitz points users of its online web travel booking service to different options depending on whether those users use a Mac or a PC.

According to the report, Orbitz Worldwide Inc. has concluded that users of Mac computers can spend as much as 30% more a night on hotels. They defend their decision for showing higher priced hotel rooms with this data.

According to chief scientist Wai Gen Yee, Mac user are 40% more likely to purchase a more expensive hotel room than PC users are.

Why is this? Well according to Forrester Research, “the average income for adult Mac users is about $25,000 more than that of PC owners.”

What do you think is it fair to point users to more expensive hotels merely because they used a Mac to visit your site?

Wow….this is totally absurd. Orbitz just lost my business forever. Any company that condones such a business practice will not get a penny from me. Shame on your Orbitz.

Bryan I totally agree this is not a company I wish to do business with, I must admit when I read this I first thought it was a joke, but really from now on if I was to visit this site I would make sure to use a PC.

I probably do make “$25,000 more” than the average PC owner. I probably do look at more expensive places.
Isn’t what Orbitz is just doing is showing me the more expensive locations, which are the ones I’m more interested in anyway?

As far as I can tell there is no more markup, it is just a sorting of the items?
