I would like “Objective-C Fundamentals”. I have a decent grasp of how to use the various iOS APIs, but at this point I would like to improve my understanding of Objective-C with an eye toward developing Mac applications as well.

I’m hoping for a copy of the iOS in Action book. I’ve done some PhoneGap work and I keep steering toward HTML5+JS rather than native. The Action book looks like a good book to look at iOS development in another way!

I really would love a copy of Objective-C Fundamentals. Getting a strong grasp of the Objective-C language makes life better for everyone!

While I’m a graphic designer, not a developer, I recently started designing iOS apps and hate to be one-sided with my knowledge. This book would enable me to understand what makes my designs work. Perhaps I’ll be able to code my own apps in the future, or at minimum, be able to better communicate with the developers I do work with!

  13. Rob Brennan 15. Jul, 2011 at 11:18 pm #

Wow, both sound like excellent titles. I don’t know which would be better…strengthening my foundation in objective C, or really getting the most out of iOS4. How about both so I can compare and contrast? =)

I would love to win iOS4 in action as I am just getting started with iOS development and this would be a BIG help!

I would love to get the iOS4 in Action book. I pretty much have the fundamentals of Objective-C down, and this would be a great eBook to learn more in iOS4, and I can read it from my iPhone which would make it fantastic when I need to look up something quick.

I am always looking to gain more knowledge in iOS.

Objective-C Fundamentals if you choose me

  19. @musha68k 19. Jul, 2011 at 11:16 am #

Currently & concurrently working on both a devops utility app and a simple game for iOS 4 (both iPad & iPhone). My background is in system administration, a little systems programming and ruby & perl scripting.

My goals are diverse and most of the time I prefer to learn from experience/tutorials therefore I’d think the “iOS 4 in Action” could help me to finally *launch* my projects.

Also to properly finish my hustling I’ve really got to say that Manning’s books on Ruby helped me big time – specifically “The Well-Grounded Rubyist” and “Ruby for Rails” from Mr. David A. Black.

Also Objective-C Fundamentals’ cover reminds me a little of Edward Carnby out of Alone in the Dark – don’t ask me why. Simply put I love your cover art (and so does my ex-girlfriend)!

http://bit.ly/r62mJw (not a lot of resemblence, right?)

Also to the new Mobile Orchard team – thanks a ton for keeping this site alive, I probably should tweet more of your articles!

Hustle over and out – Godspeed!

We’re in the midst of a brutal death march iOS project, and we need help! We’re long time Manning fans, from Flex on Rails to your great Rails books.

Please save us, Obi-Manning, you’re the only one!

I’ve been brushing up on some Objective-C, but would love to get iOS4 In Action. For one, I’m a big fan of the In Action books, an another is I’m eager to learn how to build iOS apps. I’ll probably buy it anyway, but could sure use a free one.

Who doesn’t love Manning’s books? I own tons of them. I primarily work on the web (Ruby on Rails, .NET, Silverlight), but really want to get into Objective-C.

  30. modogo 22. Jul, 2011 at 1:47 am #

Hey, i would be interested in both books, but “iOS 4 in Action” would suit my needs better, so i’d have to go with that one if possible. My Twitter-Account is @modogo

    • modogo 22. Jul, 2011 at 6:33 am #

oh right, i forgot about the whole “why i want to win” part. well… i think thats kind of obvious. I develop software for ios devices and i am always looking for input on how to be a better developer and how to write better code (in respect to readability, maintainability and so on).
